The word ‘exams’ make the students tremble and if the subject is maths, you can be sure that the palpitation would be much more. Before sitting for math exams you must have done the same problems again and again. You have ensured that you remembered all the formulas.

Yet after the results are out, you found that the grades are not as good as expected! The reason behind this is not understanding math, but doing the common mistakes in the exams papers that most students do.

So, if you know about the common mistakes, you can try to avoid them in your next exam.

Spend too much time in one question

Math exams just do not check your mathematical ability but also check your time management skills. What most students do is try to complete the questions as they appear.

They keep on trying on the same problem and do not attempt others until they are done with the one they are doing. With this you waste a lot of time, in this time you may have completed some more problems and would score better grades. So, after you get the paper, go through it and distribute time equally.

Thinking something writing something else

This is another mistake that is done by most students during exams. Like they think that 2multiplied by 3 is 6. Now, while writing either in hurry or excitement they write 2 multiplied by 6 is 6.

This is a grave mistake for the teacher while they check the paper. Reviewing the answer sheet after completing the paper may help in reducing such errors.

Not using scarp paper as rough

Most students while doing math during exam try to complete everything in hurry. They do not want to waste even a few minutes for doing rough. However, by working problems mentally sometimes students do them in wrong way and write the wrong figures in the paper.

This is to be avoided. Rough paper must be used for doing rough work. It may take some time, but would ensure that you are doing the right thing.

Common mathematical errors

Apart from the ones mentioned, there are many mathematical errors that are commonly done by the students. Like, they get confused with the units and instead of converting cm into mm they write the answers in cm.

Sometimes students forget that (-4)2 is 16 and not -16. So, these types of mathematical mistakes are quite common and these can be overcome only by practicing them more and more.
