Are you looking for a math tutor or, do you, perhaps, wish to be a math tutor yourself? Well, there are a few qualities that are deemed as essential in a math tutor. On this page, we are going to take a little look at some of the most important.

### For starters, the math tutor is actually going to need to be good at math.

They need to have a solid understanding of all of the concepts that are required to be taught.

- If they do not have a solid understanding it is going to be very difficult for them to pass on their knowledge, right?

### A good math tutor will also need to be patient.

It is fair to say that the vast majority of people who go to math tution will not really have the best understanding of maths.

- The math tutor, therefore, needs to understand that they may have to spend a lot of time on something very small. If the math tutor is not patient, this is going to be a problem.
- Do bear in mind that a patient tutor is the key to unlocking the potential in a person.

### A good math tutor also needs an ability to teach.

- It is no good just giving a child some worksheets and telling them to get on with it.
- A good math tutor needs to know how to be able to explain particular concepts well.
- It is all well and good knowing absolutely everything there is to know about maths, but if you can’t pass on that knowledge to somebody, it is absolutely worthless.
- In my opinion, good tutors are born, although that is not to say that a newcomer to the profession will not be able to learn how to convey their knowledge well, it just may take a little bit more time.

### A good math tutor needs to know how to put people at ease.

- As mentioned previously; the majority of people who attend math tutor sessions will not be all that confident in their abilities.
- One of the jobs of a math tutor is to get people to feel confident in their math work.
- Once they make somebody feel much more confident in their abilities, it is going to be a great deal easier to teach them.

### A good math teacher needs to be mature.

- They need to act like a professional. Good maths is taught by somebody who is respected.
- Plus, if you are not a professional, there is a fairly decent chance that you will end up being fired by the family anyway.

### You also need to be persistent in your teaching.

- You need to have the drive to hammer away and get a pupil to unlock their potential.
- There is no such thing as a bad math student, there is such thing as a bad math teacher. You can’t just give up when you are teaching somebody something, basically.
